Update 4 January 2012

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year and I hope you all had a very peaceful and healthy Christmas holiday. No planning application has been submitted yet by npower to Huntingdon District Council for the proposed Wind Farm at Molesworth.

There has been some activity by the energy company, we understand they have been making enquiries at Huntingdon District Council concerning planning fees. We have also received an email from RWE Communications Team for Molesworth Onshore Wind Farm stating “Since our public exhibitions, we have been in contact with key stakeholders including the local grid operator, Cambridgeshire Highways and others regarding the proposed wind farm. Once we have finalised our proposal, we will submit a planning application to Huntingdon District Council and update the local community by sending out newsletters which I am happy to send you also electronically. Should you wish to discuss the proposal, we would be prepared to meet with you in the new year when we are ready to update the community.” We will obviously keep you posted on any further developments.

Can I urge to write to your MP (email addresses given below) as a matter of urgency to ask them to support the MP Chris Heaton Harris’s Onshore Wind Turbines (Proximity of Habitation) Bill 2010-11, it has its second reading on the 20th January 2012? “The Bill would give powers to local authorities to specify in their neighbourhood development plans (defined as in the Localism Bill) a 'recommended best practice set-back distance' between onshore wind turbines and habitations. It includes recommendations for this set-back distance, calculated as a multiple of the turbine rotor diameter.” More information can be found at http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2010-11/onshorewindturbinesproximityofhabitation.html

For those of you who live in the Huntingdon area your MP is likely to be Shailesh Vara and his email address is VARAS@parliament.uk and for East Northants it will be Louise Mensch email address louise.mensch.mp@parliament.uk Please could you write in the next week to ensure the MPs receive your correspondence in enough time to act upon it.

Please also sign the petition REDUCE ELECTRICITY BILLS BY REFORMING THE SUBSIDIES FOR WIND FARMS on the HM Government Petition website http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22704 ""By reducing or ending the subsidies for wind-farms, we would benefit the poorest members of society, boost our manufacturing exports and, while doing so, would help protect what remains of our precious countryside."" There are now over 4000 signatures but we need many more and it is the top petition for the Department for Energy and Climate Change so encourage friends and family to sign this petition.
